BMAFC Senior Women vs Tuakau

After the postponement of last week's game, Beachlands-Maraetai women's team was eager to continue the momentum from their previous win against Three Kings.

Playing Tuakau at Te Puru, the girls knew not to underestimate the team which has been established in division two for many years, and set out to impose our style on the match from the first whistle.

Beachlands-Maraetai had control of the game right from the beginning, winning crucial tackles and stringing solid passes together despite the soggy pitch. Striker Steph Thorn was on fire, putting away her first goal only 15 minutes in, after her teammates had turned defence into a strong attack.

Tuakau managed to pin us back to 1-1 with a goal against the run of play shortly after, capitalising on a communication breakdown at the back which left their striker one-on-one with keeper Marion Tuatama.

Steph made it a hat-trick before halftime, scoring two more goals in similar fashion after the ball had been worked down the wing and crossed through to her to put her golden finishing touch on it.

After the break, the game was well and truly under our control. Although we dominated most of the possession and territory in the second 40 minutes, we only managed to find the back of the net one more time, courtesy of Jennie De Jong's corner which curled in unassisted for the second time in two matches.

With the first round over, we sit at second place on the table with a game in hand, and look forward to another home game against Ellerslie this Sunday.
