Senior Reserves Draw With Table-toppers

This week saw BMAFC Senior Reserves take on top of the table Drury. With the two teams not playing each other in previous seasons the first 20 minutes of the match was a furious affair with either side able to dominate possession. After structuring the backs during this time, the midfield was increased to 5 with manager Justin Irvine joining skipper Rex Bignell and Mark Laidlaw to sure up the middle of the park. With the increased pressure on Drury, BMAFC drew first blood with a well structured midfield play to get player of the day Shane Gardner free. In turn Shane placed a ball into the goal mouth where striker Paul Startin finished the move.
After half time the Drury team came out fired up and put the young BMAFC defence under an enormous amount of pressure. Eventually the pressure told and a short ball into the near post got tucked away. The balance of the second half saw end to end action with both teams having opportunities to take the 3 points, but with some strong man marking and top saves from keeper Kevin Walker, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. A good result for the BMAFC team who showed the metal to stand tall against the division’s top team.
The next game is away at Papakura with a 1.00pm kick off.
