Beachlands Reserves "Capitulate" Again

One week after shipping four goals in the final 10 minutes of last week's match, Beachlands Senior Mens Reserves once again allowed their defense to be breached in gut-wrenching fashion towards the end of the match against Clevedon, in their second consecutive match at Te Puru Park last Saturday.

Beachlands literally gave away the opening goal as a wayward pass found a Clevedon striker in the red-zone. Moments later Clevedon struck again to earn themselves an early 2-0 advantage.

Following two near misses on hot on the attack, Beachlands rallied late in the half, firstly scoring through Paul Startin who finished off a well-placed free kick from midfielder Mark Laidlaw. And young-gun Kade Sozpa netted Beachlands' second to level the game before oranges.

Momentum was with the home side - even if the driving wind and rain was not - in the second half. Characteristically, Beachlands started strongly in the second half but failed to capitalise on some good patches of football in the trying conditions.

Having battled well to get themselves back in the match, Beachlands suffered again from a combination of fatigue - a lack of substitutes - and a period of lapsed concentration late in the game. As Beachlands offered too much time and space to Clevedon's talented strikers, the visiting side sealed their third victory of the season, defeating Beachlands 4-2.

Beachlands Reserves are yet to register their first win of the season after three rounds. They get their next chance after an Easter Weekend break against second-placed Bucklands Beach at Rogers Park on April 30.
