Goals Keep Coming for 1st Team

Stand-in Manager Pete Jones can rightly take credit for a remarkable run of goal scoring for BMAFC's first team. Hot on the heals of an 18-0 demolition of Otahuhu in last Sunday's Counties Manukau Knock-out Cup, Beachlands faced a sterner challenge in Fencibles in their regular Division 1 competition and once again dismantled their opposition to claim a 6-1 victory on Saturday.

Pete's stroke of genius was in promoting skipper Ant Schomaker from the midfield to striker and installing talented new recruit Chris Wood from the reserve team into the vacant midfield position.

The striking pair of Ant and Bryce Henny have been on fire in their first two games playing side by side. Bryce bagged an unbelievable eight goals and Ant four goals against Otahuhu and the duo were responsible for five of BMAFC's six goals against Fencibles.

The match against Fencibles was played in perfect conditions at Te Puru park and proved - initially at least - to be a slow burner. It took 25 minutes for the locals to settle into any sort of rhythm as that period was marred by Beachlands giving away possession cheaply. Meanwhile Fencibles provided adequate opposition but lacked any real fire power to trouble the home side's goal too much.

Bryce opened the scoring on the 25 minute mark by beating a number of Fencibles players in their goal box and slotting the ball past the keeper from a tight angle. And so the game came unravelled for the visitors who conceded two more before the break.

The second half continued on from the first - quality football produced three further goals for Beachlands (Matt Henney scoring his fifth for the season to round out BMAFC's goal scoring).

Fencibles earned a consolation goal late in the match when keeper Kevin Walker (standing in for the injured Adam Kelway) failed to clear the ball from an attacking Fencibles corner. Unfortunately for Kevin the mishit ball landed at the feet of a Fencibles player who duly push the ball home for their solitary goal. The incident was the only blemish on Kevin's game who made a few telling saves under pressure.

Ant Schomaker's hat-trick, which featured some stunning strikes, failed to earn him man of the match - the honour instead was shared between midfielders Shane Dalton and Phil Cook for their tireless support play and quality distribution. Phil came within a whisker of scoring his first foal for the 1st Team - a 40 yard screamer ricochetted off the cross bar and back into the field of play by inches.

Beachlands now have three remaining league matches plus Counties Manukau Knock-out Cup games - we'll keep you posted on this website as news comes to hand of the next Cup match...
