1st Team make hard work of Fencibles
With the end of the season looming BMAFC 1st team needs to maintain a winning streak to finish the season in 3rd spot. Fencibles was next on the menu for 3 points, BM started the game with great purpose even after a lacklustre build up partly due to the fact the Papakura and Fencibles were playing at Riverhills park, it meant that the Championship sides were relegated to the small changing rooms, it makes you appreciate the great facility we have in Te Puru at our disposal, the lads also welcomed back Pete Jones from his trip home to the UK and it didn't take him long to impose his thoughts, the lads have certainly missed his approach and mannerisms.
It took until about 25 mins into the game before BM got on the score sheet as the relentless pressure finally took its toll on Fencibles with the centre half toe poking home from 2 yards a great cross from Ant Schomaker, the lads kept the good football going but could not get that final ball through to kill the game off.
The second half started off with a hiss and a roar as BM worked the ball out the left hand side to which Captain Antz took on the Fencibles right midfield and right back, leaving them in his wake he drilled a great cross in to Mustak Ali who with a little flick laid the ball back to Chris Wood on the edge of the 18 yard box who in turn drilled the ball into the back of the net, great football with a quality finish! Unfortunately that was the best football BM played in the 2nd half as they struggled to put more than 3 passes together and find feet regularly, Fencibles had a brief sniff at getting a draw after Brian Preston was harshly adjudged to bringing down a Fencibles striker in the box, the resulting penalty was put away. BM hung on for the win to keep them in the hunt for 3rd place, a feat which would be outstanding in their first season in the AFF Championship.
This Saturday sees the lads take on Powerhouse Central Untied @ Te Puru, 2.45 KO we would love to have your support to cheer on the lads!
