BMAFC WYNRS Players

BMAFC brings you an update on some of our footballers who have progressed thru the club and into the Wynton Rufer "WYNRS Academy" for football. The club has been developing closer links with WYNRS, and below displays some of the opportunities that this has lead to for our local kids.

Billy Jones (13 years old this year)

Made Auckland squad in 2010. Selected to tour Japan with the Elite Academy team. Beat Kashiwa Reysol in the Reysol Cup Final in a penalty shoot out.

Captained this team in second half of the tour.

This year has been invited to NZ Footballs National Training Centre which gathers the best youth players from around the country for intensive 5 day camps with a view to developing and sorting these players into potential national age group teams of the future (starting with under 17s)

Conor Tracey (14 years old this year) and Frazer Diver (15 years old this year)

Both of these lads have been training intensively since October 2010 as part of a 16 player squad entered into a World Club competition called The Manchester United Premier Cup (also referred to as The Nike Cup as this is the main sponsor). Frazer is a starting full back while Conor is the reserve Goalkeeper.

Firstly they had to trial for their place in the 16 man squad. Then they won their regional qualification tournament, and then had to play Forrest Hill- Milford in a one off game. They won 1-0 in a very close game and became 1 of the 2 NZ representative teams that travelled to Melbourne for the Pacific Finals. They won all 5 games there including an extra time semi final win and a 1-0 win against the local Melbourne team in the final.

They now go to the World Finals hosted at Manchester United as the sole Pacific representative and play a World Cup format competition against the other teams from each region around the world. This is in August this year.

Below is an email from WYNRS explaining a bit about the tournament and have also included some links to the Manchester United website which explains more, plus there are links to news stories and the video of their appearance on TV One Sports news below.

I hope this is of interest and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call or email me

Letter from WYNRS

I am sure most of you are already aware that our WYNRS Onehunga Sports nike cup team have won the Pacific finals in Melbourne over the weekend and with that have booked their place at the 20 team WORLD finals at Manchester United in August.

The team is soley WYNRS based and the players have been working extremely hard in our academy programme over a number of years to try and make this dream a reality. Many of the players have been involved with the WYNRS academy for over 5 years now.

We hope that this achievement acts as an inspiration for all the players involved in the WYNRS academy programme and we are very excited about the prospects of the next age groups chances coming through the ranks of the academy and playing out of Onehunga Sports, we are targeting a rich history in this prestigious event - the biggest club football tournament for under 15's in the world!

On behalf of Wynton, Miya, myself and the WYNRS team we thank you for your continued support.

  1. I cannot stress enough how huge it is that Billy has made NTC Once you get there you are on the radar on a national basis They run serious fitness tests and scientific measurement of all the players in all sorts of areas, and if you maintain these numbers and you fit the mould then you are a good chance at national honours
