Why Is Registration So Early?

Monday, 13 February 2012 20:52

Hi There Can you please explain why grading & registration is a month early. Note this has not been well publisized at all. Just a suggestion - but could the website be setup so registration be done online and fees be direct credited to save time & handling of money etc. Regards Mike Clark

Hi Mike, very good points, I'm sure there are many wondering the same things and I'd be pleased to clarify....

While it's true that Te Puru staff are helping us a little this year, the fact is that the Club is otherwise run entirely by VOLUNTEERS who all have very busy lives - Families, Work/Self Employed and no doubt other hobbies as well.

Registration is by far the biggest event of the season in terms of volunteer hours required. Please do not underestimate the mountain of work that a small but dedicated team of volunteers puts into registration (and the rest of the season) in their limited spare time.

Grading & Registration is run a month or more before the 1st official game because we need to have OUR paper work organised into Teams and into Auckland Football Federation (the organisation who sets the Competitions, from 9th grade and above) no later than the beginning of March.

What's the Story with 5-7yo in 2012?

Monday, 13 February 2012 17:23

In response to a number of emails we've received recently regarding MiniLeague (last year's internally-run competition for 5 and 6 year olds -- and some brave 4 year olds!), and also 7th and 8th Graders ... please see the following clarification.

MiniLeague

What was once known as MiniLeague will be replaced in 2012 by the "Whole of Football Plan: FIRST KICKS" - a NZ Football-designed initiative. In all practicality, this will be simply an advancement on last year's MiniLeague, which in 2011 was essentially run as a trial of the Whole of Football system.

7th and 8th Graders

Since AFF (Auckland Football Federation) has scrapped Auckland-wide competitions for 7th graders and 8th graders, 7th grade and 8th grade teams fall under the "Whole of Football Plan: FUN FOOTBALL" in 2012 - an internally run competition, to be run in conjunction with Clevedon AFC.

8th Grade Grading - 1st Team

BMAFC will be grading 8th grade players to form a "1st Team", which will be entered in the 9th Grade AFF competition.

WHY? Our top 7th grade team from 2011  was streets ahead of the other kids and it was felt that the in house competition would be detrimental to their development, so grading was needed to ensure that a fair evaluation is made for this team.

See more here about the Whole of Football Plan here:

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my child cope physically?

I'm sure your child will find they're not alone with their size and ability, but if you feel it is too much, the club would refund your money should you not want to continue after the first few weeks.

How will the Whole of Football Plan work?

We recommend attending the Open Day this weekend (18th Feb) -- see link above for details.

What about Grading?

There will be NO GRADING for players up to and including 7th Grade.

WHY? These teams will not be playing in a Auckland-wide, graded competition, so there is no need to organise players in to graded teams.

How do I register my child? (4-7 years olds)

Simply register your children on any one of the next 3 Monday nights (including tonight, Monday 13th Feb) at Beachlands Domain between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. See more here: http://www.bmafc.co.nz/bmafc/registration-form.html

When will games start?

Typically, the season kicks off on the 1st weekend in April - but please do check back here for updates as they come to hand...

Please see below for a link to information regarding CBR (Club Based Referee) Refresher Courses scheduled later this month. The course is for those CBRs in your club who gained their accreditation in 2008 or earlier and will need to keep in step with the law changes and amendments since that time.

Grading Schedule 2012

Saturday, 11 February 2012 14:17

Our apologies for the late distribution of the grading schedule, but with 2 short weeks and a hectic work schedule I have been short on time.

Please see download (click here) and also the note below.

Pete Jones has put in a considerable effort and I feel the way it has been planned is the best yet, as you can see we will have co-ordinators for every grade to help guide you all along.

Look forward to seeing you all there on Monday, any questions please don't hesitate in contact Pete or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Kind regards

Brian Preston,
Club President - Beachlands Maraetai AFC

Note from Pete Jones regarding Grading

Have a read and let me know if you have any questions. The necessary gear will need to be moved up from Te Puru and the fields would need to be set up in advance. Also you will need the people in charge of each grade on the night sorting in advance - Phil 8th Brian 9th Pom 10th Tim 11th Phil 12th Brian 13th Maylene 14/15 girls James 14/15 boys? as well as the coaches to observe each pitch. You could fill in the gaps with any willing first team players?

The NZ Football player assessment (click here) is what they are using to assess players at trials. It may be a bit advanced for many but a least everyone would be scoring players from the same criteria and coaches particularly of the stronger teams need to get familiar with these core skills and talk about them and work on them when training their players. We could simplify it if required?

The plan is for the best 8th grade players to go up and play in 9th grade. I think when you do the final grading session the top 8th graders should be mixed in with the 9th grade so they get placed in the right level team. Remember other players in other grades can play up if required and I think 2 per team can play down.

Cheers,

Pete

Registration, Fees & Whole of Football Plan

Thursday, 09 February 2012 13:32

Registrations & Grading

This begins Monday the 13th February and will be for 3 consecutive weeks, with the final grading being Monday the 27th. This will give Coaches and co-ordinators plenty of time to make sure your child is put into right team so they can enjoy their football. March will then be the time for the coaches to prepare the team for the upcoming season.

It is important that all Junior players are registered over these coming weeks due to the fact the club has grown considerably over the last 2 years and the logistics for our volunteers means it is a big job! Start times for the grading are as follows

  • 8th / 9th /10th Grade 5.30-6.30pm
  • 11th / 12th / 13th / 14th / 15th Grade 6.30-7.30pm

Grading this season will be based on small sided games 4v4 or 5v5 so please make sure your child is wearing not only boots but shin pads as well.

Fees

A lot of work has been put in the structure of fees and, unfortunately, we have had to raise fees for the 2012 season. The Club made a significant loss of $14,000 last season due to the phenomenal growth in our Junior section, coupled with the fact the club struggles for volunteers to help with fundraising events. The committee has also given consideration to the club fees of other clubs surrounding BMAFC area to ensure we are continuing to provide the best value for our members.

The fees have also been tiered this year which reflects the different charges for the age groups from AFF (Auckland Football Federation) and New Zealand Football.

  • 4-6 year old $80
  • 7-8 year old $100
  • 9th-12th Grade $115
  • 13th-15th Grade $125
  • Students $190
  • Seniors $230

From 2013 Juniors will have to provide their own shorts as the club cannot afford to keep supplying them, especially as so many people do not return their kit complete at the end of the season . So for the 2012 when your child is put into a team and given their strip for the season, they will be able to keep the shorts which may see them out for the 2013 season as well. The club did contemplate selling the shorts to try and raise some funds but the committee decided it best to give them to members to offset the price increase.

Whole of Football Plan

This comes into effect for the 2012 season for 4-8 year olds and we will be holding an open day on Saturday the 18th February @ Te Puru if you are interested in seeing how your child will benefit

  • 10:00 am Junior Intro to Coaching (FDO)
  • 12:00 pm Lunch Break
  • 12:15 pm Parent Presentation (FDO)
  • 12:45 pm Promo Event (This can form the practical component of Junior Intro to Coaching giving our newly qualified Game Leaders an opportunity to put their skills into practise with a group of players, 24 7-8)
  • 1:45pm Finish & Pack up

We are forming a "cluster" with Clevedon which will give the "whole of football plan" some real depth and hopefully ease the work l oad on some of us.

4-6 year olds will be held every Saturday @ Te Puru once the season starts and 7-8 year olds will alternate between Te Puru & Clevedon, start times and dates TBA.
