11th Grade Stormers v Papakura United
Monday, 09 May 2011 08:12
Venue: Beachlands Domain
What a day for the Deckreation Stormers! Drama on field and off. The match started off with clean strips and sunshine on a wet pitch at the Domain. By half time the rain had started, the spectators were hoarse and the boys were tiring on a heavy pitch. The first half ended 0 – 0 with a good save from Rory and Matthew hit the post. Because of the wet pitch, all low balls stopped short and the boys took a while to get used to the conditions.
Goal mouth conditions were treacherous with several good shots from Kharn, Finn and Liam stopping dead in front of the Papakura goalkeeper. The second half started in the rain. After coach's talk, the team pushed up more and played to the conditions. The Stormers had several shots on target, even one that the Mum's and Dad's (well, mostly the Dad's) thought was over the line. Lachlan eventually opened the scoring with some solid slugging through the defenders and mud. Shortly after Finn hit the post and the sideline groaned again. The Papakura goalie stopped a shot outside the box and couldn't pick it up. Kharn read the situation well and passed to Lachlan for a second controversial goal. The defensive wall of Steven and Jakob held well and the game ended a muddy 2 – 0. A big thanks to all the supporters for sticking it out in the rain and to Paul who refereed both halves in partisan conditions from both sidelines. Player of the Day, Luca Nolan. Coach's Award Lachlan Hamilton Ralph, and the Persil Award for the Dirtiest Shirt Finn. Cleanest Player (apart from Coach's handprint) was Liam.
