11th Stormers v Otahuhu Utd Tigers
Saturday, 16 April 2011 11:37
Venue: Beachlands Domain
It was the beginning of the school holidays so that meant only one thing – rain and plenty of it. Captain Rory led his team out and observed one minute's silence. The wet weather did not dampen the team's enthusiasm, or that of the plentiful supporters young and old. After several near misses Finn finally opened the scoring with his first goal of the season. This was closely followed by Kharn's first of the season.
Just before half time, Finn scored a second goal which bounced off both sides of the goal posts before crawling over the line; Coach's pulse went up a few notches! In the second half Matthew got two goals over the line but they were disallowed – some strange thing called offside rule.
The opposition gallantly fought back and in a bloody (literally) battle got one passed the goal keeper and then had to be carried off the pitch injured. Not to be disheartened Finn completed his hat trick. Not to be out done Kharn scored a second goal. Full time result 5 – 1 to us – OUR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON!
Nine drenched boys headed home wet but happy! POD went to Finn for his hat trick and Coach's award was awarded to Paul Croxford our amphibious referee.
