Venue: Beachlands Domain
Sorry for no match report last week. Theresa was fully focussed on preparing school reports not soccer reports. Lucky kids at Manurewa. Normal service has resumed.
Saturday 21st May. Deckreation Stormers vs. Fencibles. The domain was still very wet and someone had dug a hole in the corner. Saggers never said the job description included groundsman. The Fencibles were top of the table as the Stormers lined up with only one sub. A daunting task! It was stalemate for the first 20 minutes with the Fencibles having plenty shots either well defended or over the bar. Eventually their striker lobbed one over Rory's head.
The Fencible's supporters shouted "finally" which showed how early they must have scored in their other games. Well done Stormers. Next, against the run of play Finn and Kharn played several one-twos and Finn scored the best goal the Stormers have ever managed. A properly constructed, well passed gem. Dennis was very proud.
All the training finally paid off. The second half started at 1-2 down and it was all to play for. The Stormers were kicking uphill. The Stormers defence was not its normal self with at least Matthew, Jakob and Finn all struggling with colds or flu. Liam and Matthew both took a heavy knock, got up and kept playing. Rory tried to catch a long lob and managed to try to use his face as a pair of gloves. Laugh of the game was Kharn tying his laces and the ball rebounding of his bum.
Our lads battled hard but the table toppers were too strong and managed another 4 goals, leaving it 6-1.
Player of the Day for excellent passing and listening to coach was Kharn. Coach's award went to a much improved Luca, who is really starting to get his game together.
