11th Grade Stormers v Drury

Venue: Papakura Army Camp

16th July, Deckreation Stormers vs Drury (at Papakura) 8 boys gathered at the old Army Camp to play Drury. The grass was short and no mud. It’s a while since our lads had seen the ball bounce as high and move as fast. They started moving well and within 5 minutes Liam passed to Finn for our first goal. Drury scored straight after to equalise.

Rory managed a few good saves to keep the Stormers in the game. Unfortunately we suffered an own goal from a corner. Then after 4 years of trying, out of the blue Luca scored his first goal from another great Liam pass. Well done L and L. Great combination. Next 3 of our defenders chased the same Drury player leaving another wide open to slot in a goal. 2-3 at half time.

We didn’t score at all in the second half. Rory managed some good saves with Jakob and Jarrod stopping a fairly continuous onslaught from Drury. The Stormers started to fall apart and gave away another 3 goals with a wayward midfield, lacklustre attack and tiring defence on a fast pitch. Given the previous great win, Dennis and the parents were left wondering why our games vary so much as conditions were perfect.

Fitness and winter sniffles appears to be our key issues. No game next week, so we advise you to rest your lads and enjoy the school holiday. Player of the Day was Jarrod. Coaches Award went to Luca.
